In the 1950's the Naxon Utilities Corporation of Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A. developed their version of a bean cooker and named it the Beanery. In 1970 the Rival Company bought the assets of the Naxon Utilities Corporation as well as the rights to the Beanery. The stoneware liner in the original Rival ‘Crock Pot’ was not removable. In 1974 Rival redesigned the electric appliance with a removable liner for easy cleaning.
