'FLY FISHING' for STEELHEAD TROUT---and 'FISHING TIPS'
61AN EXHILARATING FEELING
The exhilarating feeling one receives when a Steelhead Trout hits your fly is a joy to remember. Your heart begins to pump faster and faster as the hooked trout heads down stream like a torpedo and if you are not alert the trout will run the entire fly line right off the reel. This is the most excitement I ever got from fishing because to land a steelhead trout is a feat in itself. Many steelhead trout are hooked but few are landed. I can tell you this from experience. If you never tried 'fly fishing' for Steelhead Trout, I would encourage you to give it a try so that you may also feel the exhilaration that comes with landing one of these extra large fish.
I fly fish the streams surrounding Lake Eire in Erie, Pennsylvania. Streams such as Elk Creek where these trout go up to spawn have numerous holes where they stop to rest and you can see a large number of them in the hole but they will not hit your fly. You may snag a fish before one takes the fly. Of course a snagged fish will give you a battle as well.
'Fishing Tip' for landing a Steelhead Trout when you have one on the hook is first be very patient and hold the tip of your 'fly fishing rod' up in the air, at all times. Now work the trout by allowing the trout to take your line out when the line gets tight so it will not break then work him back in toward you. The object is to get the fish tired before attempting to land it. Again, the rod tip must remain up at all times.
For an exhilarating 'fly fishing' trip--- try Steelhead Fishing and GOOD LUCK !
